David Hyland (Bodhrán)
David Hyland is one of the three locally well known Hyland brothers. Many locals say that David, Seamus and Tom Hyland are responsible for the immense revival of Irish music and dancing in the area. David is the resident bodhrán player of The Booley House show, and has been since the start.
He is well-regarded as a fine percussionist, beating out varying rhythyms on the goatskin, making the sounds unique only to a bodhrán. Audiences fall silent to it's sound, and tap their feet in abandonment when he increases his speed. When a lone dancer joins him on stage, the intricate rhythyms can only be heard to be appreciated.
David was born in Ballyduff Upper himself, and though he emigrated to London for many years, he always returned each year to play in the Summer show. Now that he has returned to live in our local Gaeltacht in Ring, we are delighted to have him on our doorstep and available to play with us on our tours and events.
